Staffed DNT lodge Krækkja (1161 AMSL)

Show map

Krækkja lies on the shore of Lake Storkrækkja, with a view toward Hallingskarvet. Here the landscape is open and sweeping, with the appearance of a plateau. Stay a few days to experience the valleys, the peaks to the northwest or the plateau to the south. Krækkja was the first DNT lodge on the Hardanger Plateau, but people have lived here for several thousand years. The remains of ancient settlements lie almost at the lodge door.

Hike choices: Here you can wander from lodge to lodge or stay for several days. The terrain offers easy hiking suitable for hikers of all ages. Around the lodge there's good fishing, many hike choices and a profuse plant and animal life. Canoes are for rent and fishing licences may be bought at the lodge.

Krækka is easily accessible, in the middle of the DNT route network. From the lodge there are marked trails in several directions, including to Finse, Kjeldebu, Tuva and Haugastøl.

Krækkja

Facilities: The lodge has 85 bunks in two-bunk, three-bunk and four-bunk rooms, a larger room and a dormitory. The lodge has a washroom, showers and a diesel generator and serves breakfast and dinner, either three-course or individual dishes. Fully licenced.

Seasons: Krækkja is staffed at Easter and in summer. In the off season during the rest of the year, it offers self-service lodging, available by using the DNT cabin key.

Extended stays of two days or more may be booked directly at the lodge in season (board and lodging prices for stays of three or more days) or by contacting the hosts in off season.

Summer access: Bus or Bergen line train to Geilo and a local bus onward to Fagerheim, from which it's a 5 km hike. Boat transport of people or baggage may be booked with the lodge warden. You also can drive to the carpark at Fagerheim.

Winter access: By car or bus on National Road 7 or train on the Bergen line to Haugastøl, from where it's a 12 km ski along a staked route to Krækkja. Park at Haugastøl, as the road may be closed upon short notice. Over snow transport of people or baggage from Haugastøl may be booked with the lodge warden.

Access
