Fondsbu lies at scenic Eidsbugarden on lake Bygdin. It has a vibrant environment and is popular with avid hikers. Here there also are challenges for summit seekers and for glacier hikers.
Hike choices: There are many magnificent choices of hikes from Fondsbu and Eidsbugarden. The hike to the summit of Utsikten ("The vantage point") is recommended! Popular poet Aaamund Olavson Vinje (1818-1870) named the peak, as he did the Jotunheimen range. Utsikten was his favourite place at Eidsbugarden, with good reason, as the view from it is magnificent.
In winter, there are staked routes in all directions from Fondsbu. Some of the routes are staked in February, when the lodge opens, and others are staked later in winter.
Facilities: Fondsbu has 100 bunks; there are 17 rooms with two bunks and 10 with four bunks; and there are 26 bunks in two dormitories, in the main building (totally renovated in 1993) and in the annex (new in 1999). There are toilets, showers and a drying room in both buildings. Moreover, the rooms with two bunks in the main building have sinks with hot and cold water.

Access: In summer, there's a daily bus (until mid September) from Oslo via Årdal to Tyin and onward to Fondsbu on National Road 252. Another approach is from the east, by bus or car on National Road 51 to Bygdin and by passenger launch on the lake to Fondsbu.
In winter, there are daily bus services from Oslo and Årdal to Tyin. From Tyin, tracked vehicle or snowmobile services to Fondsbu are available upon advance booking. You also may drive to Tyin on E16, and there is a carpark there. From Tyin to Fondsbu, it's about 20 km along a staked route, an easy ski tour in fantastic terrain. If you wish, you may send your baggage with the tracked vehicle.

Summer: I sommersesongen går det daglig buss (til ca. 15 september) fra Oslo og Årdal til Tyin og videre inn til Fondsbu. Eventuelt fra Fagernes til Bygdin og med båt over Bygdin inn til Fondsbu.
Winter: Vinterstid går det daglig buss fra Oslo/Årdal til Tyin, videre med beltebil/snøskuter fra Tyin til Fondsbu. Transporten må forhåndsbestilles. Du kan også ta bil til Tyin, hvor det er parkering. Fra Tyin til Fondsbu er det en 20 km skitur langs kvistet løype. En lettgått tur i et fantastisk terreng! Bagasjen kan du eventuelt sende med beltebilen
